Exploring Global Themes in the Elementary Curriculum

Page history last edited by Jessica Lancaster 13 years, 9 months ago

Why go global?  The world continues to shrink as Internet access and technology hardware become more available.  Web 2.0 has revolutionized how we communicate.  It is now possible to share thoughts and talk to people all over the world via computers and cameras.  In order to prepare our students for this new connected world, they need to be exposed not only to different cultures, but have a real sense of geography and current issues that affect the world.

This presentation will include the following:

  • Getting connected Global Resources
  • Leveled activities for the tourist (just getting started) to the experienced traveler (in-depth activities)
  • Curriculum ideas and connections for grades 1-4 (can be adapted up or down)
  • Planning resources:  websites, apps, books, etc.

*Click on one of the links below to view a variety of curriculum connection ideas and resources.  Use these suggestions as general guidelines and adapt to your own classroom curriculum and needs.
